I’m off to be a farmer.
Well, it is official. I will be spending my summer interning in Orcas Island, Washington on a small farm. I will be staying in a rustic barn. George, the owner, says “rustic” may be the wrong word for it, but, “you know…”. I am excited to be living in a barn on a farm and get up early in the morn. I get to wear those tall garden boots and tromp through the dirt. The kind of boots Angelina Jolie wears in Mr. and Mrs. Smith before they blow up the house. (Just watched that the other night. Ridiculous, really.) I will be attending a farmers market on Wednesday afternoons in town and Saturdays at the big all-day farmers market on the island. I see this experience this summer as an opportunity to do some serious field research. Starting down low with my hands in the dirt. Then to examine small scale economies and food production in a place as petite as Orcas Island. Along the way I hope to produce small videos so you all can see what I see, quite literally. Dirt! Earthworms! Compost! Aren’t you excited?! … ha. ha.

Thank you setting this up. It sounds like you got a taste of island life right away. Hitching, chilling, and gently being transformed into a peaceful and quite stated. If you see Mount Baker, wink at it, and think of me. Im with you in spirit. Do good work and live in peace.
